Lessons in Leadership 101 – New Cohort

Strong leadership doesn't always start in a classroom. In the construction industry, many business owners, project managers, superintendents, and site supervisors begin their careers in the field—gaining hands-on experience long before stepping into management roles. While that technical foundation is invaluable, the transition into leadership often comes without the structured training needed to effectively lead people, build teams, and manage challenges.

To help bridge that gap, Lakeshore HBA is proud to offer Lessons in Leadership 101, a three-week leadership development program designed specifically for construction industry professionals. Whether you're a business owner, current manager, or preparing to step into a leadership role, this course provides practical, real-world tools that can be immediately applied on the jobsite and in the workplace.

Through three focused modules, participants will develop essential leadership skills that improve communication, accountability, team performance, and overall business success.

Lakeshore HBA will also be offering an advanced leadership course in the Winter of 2027: Advanced Lessons in Leadership 201.

WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH

COURSE SCHEDULE

September 16 – Intentional Leadership
Develop a leadership mindset and learn practical strategies for leading with purpose and accountability.

September 23 – Communication Strategies
Strengthen communication skills to improve clarity, alignment, and collaboration across teams.

September 30 – Building Teams & Managing Conflict
Learn techniques for building stronger teams, addressing challenges, and navigating workplace conflict effectively.

COURSE DETAILS

Dates: September 16 – September 30, 2026 (Three Consecutive Wednesdays)
Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: Lakeshore HBA Office, 211 Lincoln Ave., Holland, MI 49423
Cost: $900 Members | $1,200 Non-Members (includes all materials)
Certification: LHBA Introductory Field Leadership Certificate

Attendance Requirement: Registration includes all three modules. Participants must attend all three sessions to receive certification.

About the Instructor:               


Instructor, Forrest Large, is an enthusiastic training and development professional with over 30 years of experience in the business of learning. With a background in operations and manufacturing, he has held global leadership positions within Fortune 100 companies, non-profit organizations, and family-owned businesses. His areas of expertise are Leadership Development, Curriculum Design, Adult Learning theory, and Team Development, with a passion to serve frontline and emerging leaders. He utilizes a style focused on relationship building, action learning, measurable results, and bottom-line impact.

Forrest received his undergraduate degree from Eastern Washington University, and a master’s degree in management from Aquinas College. He has been a member of ASTD, AMA, ISPI, and is an Achieve Global certified trainer. He has conducted training sessions throughout the world and, more specifically, the West Michigan area for numerous organizations, including Johnson Controls, Kerkstra Precast, Precision Metal Forming Association, New North Center for Design, the U.S. House of Representatives, and many small to mid-size local companies. He and his wife currently reside in Hudsonville Michigan.
