Spanish for Construction – New HBA Training Course

Communicating effectively on today’s jobsite is more important than ever. With approximately 31% of the construction workforce being Spanish-speaking, language barriers can impact safety, training, productivity, and advancement opportunities. To help bridge that gap, Lakeshore HBA, in partnership with Latin Americans United for Progress, is proud to launch a new Spanish for Construction training course designed specifically for the building industry.

This 10-week, introductory-level program is built for individuals with little to no Spanish experience and focuses on practical, jobsite-ready communication. Participants will develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills tailored to real construction environments—covering safety instructions, tools and equipment, materials, supervision, scheduling, and everyday jobsite conversations. The course also includes cross-cultural communication discussions to strengthen teamwork and workplace understanding.

What You’ll Walk Away With

Participants will leave the course with practical, immediately usable skills to improve communication and strengthen jobsite performance, including the ability to:

• Give and understand basic construction instructions in Spanish
• Communicate effectively about tools, materials, and jobsite activities
• Navigate safety conversations, including emergencies and hazard communication
• Improve coordination with Spanish-speaking team members
• Build stronger cross-cultural understanding and teamwork on the jobsite
• Apply foundational Spanish skills in real construction scenarios with confidence

By the end of the program, students will be able to confidently communicate in key jobsite situations including instructions, supervision, scheduling, safety, and daily coordination tasks.

Course Details

• Dates: September 15 – November 19, 2026 (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
• Time: 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM
• Location: Lakeshore HBA Office, 211 Lincoln Ave., Holland, MI 49423
• Cost: $900 Members | $1,200 Non-Members (includes all materials)
• Certification: Spanish for Construction Completion Certificate (must attend at least 8 of 10 sessions)
