JOB DESCRIPTION



Summary/Objective

The construction estimator is responsible for developing cost estimates on new and remodeling projects under direct supervision for construction as required by clients’ documents. The project coordinator will work with the project managers to schedule subcontractors, order materials, and ensure that the project is completed as contracted.

  • Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work to bid.
  • Meets with clients as needed to understand specific project requirements.
  • Execute take-offs of construction documents.
  • Inputs take-offs into a computer spreadsheet.
  • Obtains pricing for materials.
  • Obtains bids from subcontractors.
  • Maintains current trade partner relations while also being open to new partnerships.
  • Prepares cost analysis in computer by summarizing material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items.
  • Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.
  • Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
  • Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  • Work with project managers and owner(s) to plan, organize and direct activities concerned with construction projects.
  • Monitor and control project through administrative direction of on-site crew leaders and carpenters to ensure project is completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Work with contract administrator to manage financial aspects of contracts to protect company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the customer.
  • May requisition supplies and materials to complete project.
  • Formulate reports concerning such areas as work progress, costs and scheduling.
  • Works with project manager to assign workers to construction sites to work on specified projects.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


Required Education and Experience

Associates or bachelors degree in business, construction management, or other relevant combination of education and experience.

Compensation

$50,000 - $75,000 based on experience.
